Sourabhee - Two time’s the charm for the North East

23-year-old Sourabhee Debbarma made history by winning the Indian Idol 4. Sourabhee, 23, who hails from Agartala, the capital of Tripura is the first girl to win the popular music TV reality show Indian Idol.

Sourabhee crooned her way through the finals defeating Torsha Sarkar of West Bengal and Kapil Thapa of Dehradun to realise the ‘Indian Idol’ dream of north-eastern India in the land of legendary Sachin Dev Burman and his son Rahul Dev Burman.

Sourabhee, the daughter of an official of Autonomous District Council (ADC), after the grand success of Amit Paul who missed by a whisker in the last season of the show, has yet again proved that success necessarily is not the legacy of only big cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi or Chennai.

Though she never formally learned music, Sourabhee has been able to steal the show from the other participants with her golden voice and powerful stage performance.

The audience and the judges are all highly impressed with the mind-boggling performances of the talented girl and called her a ‘rock star’.

People from all sections and communities lined the streets to celebrate her success.

Members of the Sourabhee Fan Club went out at midnight with her photos in a victory procession in Agartala.

Recently as part of her promotion trip to eastern Indian states, the music icon came to her home city where she received a gala reception at the airport by her fan club.

Sourabhee, who held an edge over her fellow contestants throughout the reality show won a contract of Rs. 1 crore with Sony Music with this win.

Sourabhee, though is not the first of Tripura in paving the way to the glamorous world of Bollywood as earlier two sons of the soil Sachin Dev Barman and Rahul Dev Barman had left a golden mark in the history in the movie world with their creations but she is the first tribal of the state to have participated in a reality show.
