Mass Communications Rural Fest’07

The folk media needs to be most effective in order to properly communicate to rural people and create awareness among those who are staying in remote and backward areas where the modern media are not very effective.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest in the function of puppet show of Mass Communication’s Rural Fest’ 07, organized by the Department of Mass Communication, Assam University, Silchar at Nachghar of Dargakona village, Prof. Bhattacharjee praised the department for organizing such unique and purposeful program in the remote rural area to generate awareness about socio-economic problems, health and education and their day to day problems through folk media like puppet show. He expressed the need to organize such programs in other villages also to make people aware of problems such as child marriage, population explosion, superstitions, T.B., AIDS etc. Prof. Bhattacharjee appreciated the efforts of Mass Communication department in creating awareness on such vital issues through an innovative programme that was packed with the message against illiteracy, child marriage and population explosion to create awareness among the audience.

Welcoming and honouring the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. G.P. Pandey, HOD, complimented the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor for his continued support, proper attention and encouragement to the Mass Communication Department. He also expressed his heartfelt thanks to the villagers for their co-operation and participation and admired the enthusiasm and relentless efforts made by students, staff members and teachers of the department to make this program a grand success.

The daylong programme covered many events, games, cultural activities and competitions such as singing, musical chairs, folk dance, games, cultural activities and competitions such as open quiz competition with prizes for the winners.
