Manik Sarkar storms back to Power

From day one the ruling party established a clear lead ahead of the rival Congress - INPT alliance.

Chief minister Mr. Manik Sarkar himself addressed a series of rallies in all the sub divisions. The rallies addressed by the chief minister paid rich dividends and got reflected in the expected margins of victory registered by the various Left Front candidates. Most of the opposition Congress - INPT legislators lost miserably as a result of a tsunami campaign. They included the PCC president Mr Samir Ranjan Barman. A perturbed Mr Barman, while reacting to the shock defeat termed the verdict delivered by the masses as completely unexpected. Ironically, the results this time around was a direct replica of the results of 1993 when Mr. Barman was Chief Minister of the state.

Soon after being elected as leader of the Left Front legislature party Mr Sarkar was sworn in as the chief minister for the third time. Other members of the state cabinet who took charge include Mr Anil Sarkar, Mr Jiten Choudhury, Mr Badal Choudhury, Mr Joygobindo Debroy, Mr Manindra Reang, Mr Sahid Choudhury, Mr Manik De, Mr Aghore Debbarma, Mr Khagendra Jamatia, Mr Tapan Chakraborty and Mrs Bijita Nath.
Mr Ramendra Debnath was reelected as speaker. On the other hand Mr Bhanulal Saha who defeated Mr Barman was given the coveted post of Deputy Speaker.
