NE Education Ministers’ Meet

NE Education Ministers’ Meet

The North Eastern Education  Ministers’ Committee which had one days meeting here Tuesday has strongly opposed the central government’s decision to dismiss teachers recruited under the Sarba Siksha Abhiyaan (SSA). We strongly oppose the Central governments decision to do away with the services of the teachers employed under the Operation Blackboard, said Dr. R. Lalthangliana, chairman North Eastern Education Ministers’ Committee in the press conference.
Lalthangliana informed that if the decision is implemented, some 3000 teachers will be jobless in the northeast region while the number will be 277 in Mizoram and around 350 in Tripura. He informed that the committee has adopted seven resolutions to ensure overall development in the education sector in this region. He said that the committee was of the view that some existing guidelines of the SSA should be amended for getting maximum benefit. The Chairman favored for hill transportation subsidy for NE states keeping in view its topography to transport food grains of midday meal programme. Again the committee resolved to demand more funds for reconstruction of unsafe school buildings as the region falls under seismic zone five.
Admitting that the frustration among the youths of the region due to unemployment has lead to insurgency which has been a hindrance to overall development of the NE region. And the solution to the burning insurgency is more educational and employment opportunities in NE states.
