MASS COMMUNICATION, ASSAM UNIVERSITY INTER-UNIVERSITY COMM FEST ‘08

graced the two-day extravaganza as the guest of honour. Pro Vice-Chancellor of Assam University, Prof. G. D. Sharma, one of the dignitaries congratulated and encouraged the students of the department to build a society where awareness prevails.
The Dean, School of Information Sciences and the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Gyan Prakash Pandey, in his welcome address lauded the skills and creativity of the students of the department. Felicitating the Vice-Chancellor Prof Tapodhir Bhattacharjee for his outstanding contribution, Prof Pandey   applauded that he very much deserves being honoured. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the Vice Chancellor of Assam University formally declaring the opening of the Comm Fest ’08.
In the documentary competition held on the first day, Swakkhyar Deka of Tezpur University bagged the first prize for his film, “Abarudh”. The second prize was awarded to the film “Dark Horizon” made by Sucharita, Smita and Anamika of Mass Comm Department, Assam University.
The second day began with singing competition which was followed by the debate competition where Sarbojit Chodhury of Law Department, Assam University enthralled the audience with his superior debating skills and bagged the first prize.
Before the cultural show was unveiled, the souvenir, marking the fifth edition of Comm Fest was released by Prof. Tapodhir Bhattacharjee. Present among the dignitaries were Mr. Shouri Sengupta, Registrar and Prof. N. B. Dey, Dean, School of Management. They also graced the occasion by handing the respective prizes to the winners and the participants from the four visiting universities.
One of the main attractions of the day was the Mr. and Miss Comm Fest show where all the students of the participating universities and representatives of the organising university competed for the coveted title. Mr. Comm Fest was bagged by Rojen from Manipur University and Miss Comm Fest was awarded to Onima Lego from Rajiv Gandhi University.  
The two-day festival ended with a lively performance by a local music band which made the crowd groove to the latest beats of the music industry.
