Tura By - ElectionAGATHA SANGMA - A PIONEERING POLITICIAN

Not too long ago, Miss Sangma had expressed her confidence of victory after seeing the huge turnout for the Tura bi – polls and her predictions have become a reality. The result of the bi – polls means that Miss Sangma now stands beside her father and her two siblings Conrad and James Sangma as elected representatives of the Garo people this year.

Though the Congress party had time and again blamed Mr. Sangma who is presently the Chairman of the Meghalaya State Planning Board for preaching dynastic politics, Mr. Sangma however refuted it by saying, “I am not trying to encourage any dynastic rule. My sons are foreign educated and it is our duty to pay the state back. We need educated people in politics. “Even my daughter is highly educated.” Mr. Sangma further clarified on the recent report in an eminent English  daily which stated that he could have made his children members of the Rajya Sabha. He said that he did not do so as he wanted them to struggle and face the people.
