Theja Meru’s ‘Believe’ launched

Expressing his happiness on working with Theja, Khriehu Liezietsu pointed out that Theja Meru had made the state proud not only in the field of music but also in many other ways. He urged young Naga musicians to come forward and make music. He further stated that such endeavours should be encouraged and sponsored.

Theja grew up listening to U2 and Petra. From trying to copy his favorite singers over a small car tape, he has come a long way in music, performing in India and aboard. Having grown up baptized in Western Pop and Rock, Theja’s music is an attempt to use the wheel and not try to re-invent it. Keeping this in mind, he has tried to incorporate Naga folk melodies in snippets in few of the songs in his new album.
His new album “Believe” is an effort to fuse western pop style with Naga roots.
Theja said that  the album talks about life’s values, from his own experiences in life, and of every human being in general. Through the album, he hopes to convey the messages of a common sense of hope and a future, and the power of dreaming, and pursuing one’s dreams.
Theja also shared that it is a dream for many a musician to record an album; but getting there is often not easy because one does not only need good songs to record, or a good studio but also the difficulty in finding people who will “believe in you enough to fund the project”.
Theja’s love for music and singing grew while still a student in Kolkota at the Assemblies of God Church School (1981-1987). His first band was Lystra where he was the vocalist. He then joined “Blood & Fire” in 1992.
He wrote the theme song for 20th North East Sports Festival 2006 held in Kohima and also sang it. Further, the theme song for the XL-the Road Show and the anthem for Sainik School, Punglwa, Nagaland were also composed by him. Meru received the Governor’s Award for excellence in the field of music in 2006. He has promoted many upcoming singers and bands, giving them an opportunity to display their talents by way of conducting various activities in his popular Dream Café, Kohima. Starting August this year, Theja Meru plans to undertake a promotional tour of Nagaland for his album. Further, he also performed at the World Music Day celebration at Guwahati.
The ten-track CD is a collection of western pop and rock music and Naga music, and the lyrics talk about life- “the power of hope, the wings of faith, the joy of living, the pain of loneliness and the happiness of discovering light at the end of life’s dark tunnel.”
‘Believe’ is being supported by Rattle and Hum, Dream Café, Vision 2010, Naga Music. A percentage of the sales will go to Global Angels JCT. Priced at Rs. 200, the CD will be available in Dream Café, Bible House, Life Pro, Cross Word, Blue Exotic in Keditsu’s Building, PR Hills in Kohima; Crescendo, Pit Stop, Oxford Books and Audio Garage at Dimapur; New Crystal at Mokokchung and Play Station 2 in Tuensang.
