Airtel’s memorble Children’s Day (Title)

It may be mentioned here that children’s welfare was not just a one day affair at Airtel. Bharti Foundation, the CSR wing of the Bharti Enterprises, which runs the Satya Bharti Schools in rural areas in different parts of the country, continuously explores new ways of strengthening primary education at the grass roots level. Its School Improvement Programme complements the Foundation’s big initiative towards setting up 1,000 primary schools for underprivileged children in the country.

Bharti Foundation’s Scholarship Scheme for the meritorious but economically backward children was introduced in Assam in 2006. Presently, this scheme is under various stages of implementation in different States of the North East.

Children’s Day in Assam started at 7.30 a.m. at Don Bosco School, Pan Bazar Guwahati, with Mr. Sudipto Chowdhury, COO Bharti Airtel NESA, participating in the memorial service to pay homage to the recent serial bomb blast victims in Assam. This was followed by a poster campaign in which primary school students of Don Bosco participated.

The afternoon saw a flurry of activities by way of rounds of drawing competitions for the lesser privileged children of Snehalaya a Shelter Home in Dhirenpara in Guwahati in which the primary, middle and high school students of Don Bosco Evening School participated.

In addition, the drawing competitions were organised in the Airtel Relationship Centers(ARC’s) in Guwahati, Dibrugarh & Tezpur involving the children of our customers. Similar contests were simultaneously held in the ARC’s of all the States of NER.

On similar lines the ‘on the spot drawing competition’ was conducted with the children of the Airtel employees in their respective office premises in many locations.

Mr. Sudipto Choudhury, COO, Bharti Airtel NESA said “Airtel is happy to associate & also encourage the children across the Northeastern region in bringing out their latent talents. Especially in the wake of the recent sombre past events, by involving the children in all the States of the North East, we hope to bring back a smile to their faces & take the message of shunning the path of violence.

Bharti Airtel NESA witnessed for the very first time an event of this magnitude on Childrens’ day, wherein 30 competitions were held at 9 locations in the Northeastern region & simultaneously touched the hearts of 2500 children for the cause of peace in society. The happiness & eagerness to participate brought sleepless nights in the lives of the lesser privileged children & for sure partaking in their happiness made Children’s Day for all at Airtel NESA a memorable one as well!
