“The controversy that has stated from 2nd of August has clear motives to tarnish my image especially when election is around the corner” – member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Sanbor Shullai.

It all started when the MLA interfered in army recruitment process on the night of 2nd August.

“My motive of interfering in the accommodation for the job aspirants was that to provide free accommodation on humanitarian grounds since it falls under my constituency and also to prevent any scuffles between the locals and the job aspirants coming from outside the state.”

Sanbor claimed that that the manager of the guest house has already taken Rs. 500 from each aspirant who has travelled far away from their home, hence it his duty to him as a public servants to provide them free of course accommodation.

Meanwhile Mrs Haviva also accused Sanbor Shullai of forcefully snatching away the contract paper from her brother (Mickey Passah brother of Haviva, the lessee of the guest house).

On the 4th August Mrs. Haviva accompanied by another lady and her brother forcefully barge into the MLA house when an official meeting was underway and hurled abuse at the MLA. Despite being told by all the people presence inside and outside the MLA house the company did not pay heed until the interference of the MLA’s wife and daughter. Sanbor alleged that Mrs Haviva threatened to file a false complain to the police before leaving his premise.

Post this incident Mrs Haviva file a case against the MLA alleged him of outraging her modesty claiming that she was pushed which result in minor cut on her upper lip.

He also reminds the press that such allegations against him are not new. Similarly on 22nd October 2012 just 4 month before the State Assembly Election an FIR was launched against him by the Seng Khasi Raid Laban on the grounds that he has misused the sacred flag of the union but the court overturned in his favour claiming the case against his are baseless.

Emphasis on Neglected Touring Sites

-By Deoraj Singh

Tourism is a big industry and source of revenue. That is why Modi Government is stressing upon and covering the left over areas where previous government lacked in promoting. Similarly, Yogi Sarkar in Uttar Pradesh carefully craved the future of Economy, which is reflected in the first budget. In the nearly four months of the BJP-led government in Uttar Pradesh- it has made a number of decisions relating to religion, from better facilities during festivals, to development of religious sites and assistance for pilgrims. The government describes these as a part of its development agenda rather to connect them with religion. “The only target of our government is development, others could associate it with Hindutva but development is the only goal of the government.” said Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, also BJP State President.

Exposing The Bogey of DISCRIMINATION AGAINST THE NORTHEASTERNER

-By Subir Deb

So widespread is the influence of the disruptive forces in India’s North Eastern States that even the recent watershed development like launching of GST, the One India One Tax regime, on the midnight of 30th June could not, for a moment, muffle or contain the voice of racism and regionalism that is booming in that corner of our country!

On 25th June, 2017 at Delhi Golf Club, Talin Lyngdoh, a Khasi lady from Meghalaya, was humiliated and shown the door because her traditional costume “Jainsem” was perceived to be a maid’s uniform.

INDEPENDENT MOVEMENT AND THE WOMEN OF MANIPUR

-By Sunzu Bachaspatimayum

Just as Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was taken by surprise when he was told that in 1927, a 13 year old tribe girl in the remote hills of North-East India gave a clarion call to fight the British, most Indian would be ignorant of her too.

She is none other than the fearless Gaidinlu from Manipur, who dared the mighty British, calling on the people to oppose them saying, “We are free people, the white men should not rule over us”.

In 2015, the Governmentof India immortalized her indomitable spirit by issuing a commemorative coin. A Birsa Munda Award and a postal stamp in 1996, the Vivekananda Seva Award in 1983, the Padma Bhusan in 1982 and also a Tamrapatra Freedom Fighter Award in 1972 were also bestowed on Gaidinlu.

Paona Brajabashi THE GREAT PATRIOT OF MANIPUR

-By Sunzu Bachaspatimayum

Any discourse on patriotism and patriots in Manipur, would almost always bring up Paona Brajabashi – the National Hero of Manipur who gave his life for honour and valour. He was the commander who led the Manipuri Army against the British columns coming from Myanmar in the last Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.Paona embraced death rather than retreat or surrender.

Although they were no match for the British columns in terms of numbers and firepower, the 300 strong warriors under the command of Paona Brajabashi fought gallantly until their last breath at the battle of Khongjom, some 35 km away from the capital Imphal. Their courage and heroism drew admiration even from the enemy.
