Free coaching for enthusiastic swimmers

The Meghalaya Swimming Association (MSA) taking the 2022 National Games as their top priority has decided to provide free training for enthusiastic swimmers in the under-14 categories. The training includes Diving and all styles of Swimming. Speaking at the 13 Annual State Swimming Competition at the Caroline Swimming pool, Mr. Joe Marwein urged all the parents to support their children in the quest to become professional in this water sports. He called out the youngsters to come out and get trained under the Association to prepare for the 2022 National Games which will be held in Shillong.

Railway project in Meghalaya likely to faced centre intervention

The Union minister of state Mr. D. V. SadanandaGowda said that the railway line from Assam to Shillong is considered as the national project once the central government gave its nod, the Centre is bound to intervene. 

The Union Minister of state said that the central government is much aware about the opposition from the student union for the construction of railway line into the state and the Chief Minister himself is kin in implementing this project in the state.

In order to solve this imbroglio the state government need only to ask for assistance from the centre. The central government is ready to intervene if this project required intervention. At the same time the Union Minister of state, said that any development taken up in the state should be done in consultation with the stake holders. What inputs he received he said, He will shared with the Cabinet minister of Railway ministry for further implementation.

The Union minister of state said that the railway line in the Assam side length of 21.5 km is completed and in Meghalaya the project has just started inside Byrnihatwith only 2.2 km and the remaining is yet to start. The total length of the railway line up to Shillong is 108 km.

The total project cost is Rs. 6000 cores, the amount spent is in T.240 cores in 2015-2016 and Rs.200 cores for the year 2016-2017. The central government has already deposited the money Rs. 250 cores for land compensation.

The central government has also agreed to assist the state government to strengthen the statistic department government of Meghalaya the central government will bear Rs.10.9 cores for this project.

Foundation stone of Mawphlang Science and Commerce College.

Chief Minister Dr.Mukul M Sangma in the presence of other MinistersH.D.R Lyngdoh, M. Dango, AmpareenLyngdoh and MLA of  Mawphlang Kennedy Khyriemlaid the Foundation Stone for Science & Commerce College at a function which was held at Sacred Grove.

DrMukulSangma clearly stressed on the need for proper education especially in rural areas for overall development. Due to lack of education facilities the youth of the state are bound to migrate to Shillong or outside the state for higher education, He stressed. The Chief Minister also said that the government is taking care of all the issues relating to education and with complete involvement of all stakeholders the state will rose back to its former glory of being “the educational hub of the northeast”.

 

The 20 acres land for the college construction was donated by the HimaMawphlang.

Death Threat to Tripura CM Manik Sarkar

An unidentified person has given a death threat to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, police said on Friday. The threat appeared in a Facebook post by one Riya Roy on behalf of the 'World Anti-Communist Council' which said anybody who kills Sarkar would be awarded Rs 5 Lakh. Police has suo motu registered a case, saying the post was suspected to have used a fake name.

A FIR in connection with the post was lodged by one Subrata Chakrabarty, who received the post from Roy. Chakraborty, a resident of Bardowali in Tripiura, suspects the post is the handiwork of a gang of criminals.

Asked if Sarkar’s security would be enhanced, he said the chief minister already has Z Plus category security and in case it had to be enhanced would be decided by the committees which look into the security aspects of VIPs.

Flood leads to dead of more than 140 animals in Assam

 

The second wave of floods in Assam has inundated 80 per cent of the 481 sq km area of the famed Kaziranga National Park and claimed the lives of over 140 animals, including seven rhinos.

Since August 10, seven rhinos, 122 swamp deer, two elephants, three wild boars, two hog deer, three sambhar deer, one buffalo and one porcupine died, KNP Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Rohini Ballav Saikia said. "Carcasses are being recovered daily," the official said.

 

Out of the seven dead rhinos, six drowned while the other died of natural causes.

Water of the Brahmaputra river entered the KNP, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through river Difloo.

Intensified water patrolling was on by KNP guards, task force, protection force along with those from NGOs, Wildlife Trust of India and forest department employees for rescuing, recovering and making assessment of species trapped or dead in the KNP, Saikia said.

 

At present, animals in KNP are moving in search of food available on both sides of the NH-37 and the adjacent tea gardens towards the higher altitudes of Karbi Anglong district. As per DFO, Forest department and security personnel are fixing hoardings, posters, banners to restrict speed limit of vehicles on the NH-37 passing through the park between 20-40 km per hour.

Railways Links cancelled till 20 August 2017

All trains to the Northeast from rest of the country have been cancelled till 20 August due to flood damaged tracks in Assam, West Bengal and Bihar, officials said on Wednesday.“The Railway Board has directed all zonal railways to cancel trains travelling from various parts of the country beyond Malda town and Katihar,” Northeast Frontier Railway chief public relations officer Pranav Jyoti Sharma said in a statement. “However, virtually no accessibility to most of the damaged sites has affected the restoration work. Telecommunication network in the entire section is badly affected also,” Water is still above danger level in sections like Dalkhola-Telta-Sudhani Barsoi-Raiganj and Balurghat-Buniyadpur. Restoration work is going on. Boulder, ballast and other materials are being arranged from various locations for being used in restoration work. On date, there are about 120 passengers, who are stranded at Guwahati station and railway administration is taking all necessary steps to extend all possible assistance to these people currently.

Participation of ASSAM’S WOMEN in Freedom Struggle of India

The participation of women of India up to the 19th century was restricted only to the members of the royal and noble families. During the first part of 20th century when the wave of women up rise was blowing in the country and Mahatma Gandhi started Non-Cooperation Movement against the British rule, the women from Assam took leading part in the struggle. In Non-Cooperation Movement, women’s participation was more important than that of the men, because they were the symbol of strength.

Religious individuals wait for BJP revelation

The BJP blamed congress for portraying BJP as an anti-Christian and anti minority. In a meeting between the BJP and six religious groups the BJP spokes person Nalin Kohli clearly stated that congress are trying hard to brainwash the people of Meghalaya, by accusing the BJP of favouring only Hinduism.

It is noted that religious groups came to the meeting as a free individuals but not as the representative of the church. The BJP spokesperson encourages every individual to clarify their stand on or against the BJP. He said “the meeting has no political interest but to clarify the doubts on the stand of BJP on other religion, and the stand is clear we are a secular party” and every one has the freedom to belief.”

Those six religious group leaders who attended the meeting were from Christians both Catholic and Presbyterian, Sikh, Seng Khasi, Hindu, Muslim.
