BJP at slow and steady race

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems not to be in a hurry in the race for the 2018 assembly elections even when it is expected that some of the sitting legislators would join the party. The main object of the BJP is to keep at bay the Congress, a party which had ruled the roost for so long in Meghalaya mainly because the regional parties cannot keep themselves together. This time however the regional parties are attempting to bind together, yet with no sign of specific seriousness. The BJP however is executing the plan in strengthening the party at all levels. The BJP has not made known the candidates. So there is a kind of a veil of secrecy in the BJP camp which can be a tactical move in the chess board of political games. The party is however awaiting the blessing and presence of the Prime Minister himself who is expected to set foot in Shillong next month.

Threat against Anti party Activities

The Congress party has threatened to punish and take severe action against party members including cabinet ministers for anti party activities that can accuse the weakening of the party in the ensuing assembly polls. The state Congress has also brought to the notice of the high command of the activities of the rebels. Prominent among these are two cabinet ministers Rowell Lyndoh who was also former Deputy Chief Minister and also Prestone Tynsong. However it is a foregone conclusion that the Congress rebels would not heed to the party dictate. The situation therefore does not augur well for the Congress, especially at this crucial juncture when the party needs a boost up to face the election battle to capture as many seats as possible so as to retain power in the governance of the state. It has to be seen whether the Congress would only issue show cause notices to rebel legislators or to expel them outright from the party.

Hike in salary.. a political gimmick??

It may be a bonus for the state government employees of Meghalaya for the enhance pay, specially to meet domestic expenses and rise in prices of essential commodities. As winter season is knocking at the door, government employees can also afford in buying warm clothings and heating systems. However a pertinent question is being raised, why this pay hike should come around just before the general elections to the state legislative assembly. Is it a ploy or gimmick to indirectly buy votes as questioned by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is a good question mark. Yet it all depend on the intelligence of the voters, that the hike in their salaries, is what is due to them. It should not be considered as any free gift or a bribe to garner votes. The pay increase is 268%. A bigger question mark is from where the government would dig out all this money.
