Ardent Basaiwmoit opposed Conrad Sangma as CM

Ardent Basaiwmoit, the Hill State People's Democratic Party (HSPDP) Chief said that the party opposed Conrad Sangma as the State ‘Chief Minister’ and it also opposed the inclusion of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in forming the new Government.  Ardent said that "during the election we have campaigned that we want to have a non-Congress and non-BJP Government, this is the reason we don't want the BJP”. He also questioned its alliance the United Democratic Party (UDP) as it did not consult with the HSPDP before proposing Conrad Sangma's as the Chief Minister's post.

HSPDP who won 2 seats play a little role in the formation of Government and even if the two elected members quit the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) the new Conrad Sangma–led Government would not face any difficulties as the current alliance already consist of 34 MLAs.

The new Regional Democratic Alliance Government consist of 11 ministers which includes 6 from NPP, 2 from (UDP) and 1 each from BJP, PDF and HSPDP.

The End of an era for HSPDP!!

Nongstoin witnessed historical result after the 2018 Legislative Assembly when the Hill State Democratic Party (HSPDP) could not retain its stronghold. The party has established itself as Nongstoin only political party since the state inception in 1972.  The party was formed and led by (Late) Hopingstone Lyngdoh since its inception and has never lost in any election from 1972 to 2015 in his long political career.

The 2018 was intense but not quite surprising as people of the region wanted to taste something new. Macmillan Byrsat of National People’s Party (NPP) defeated Dios Jyndiang of HSPDP and Congress candidate Gabriel Wahlang. The NPP candidate had urged the people of Nongstoin to collectively work towards the development of the region irrespective belonging to any parties. Earlier in his campaign speech, Byrsat had promised to work for the protection of land and soil. Where “the rights of the people over land would be guaranteed and protected by law. Law will protect the religious minorities in Meghalaya and help the helpless youth, farmers and others,” he added.

KICK US OUT

These  are  the  words  of  the  Prime  Minister  himself  Narendra  Modi who  in  his  last  election   rally  at  Phulbari in  the  Garo  Hills  of  Meghalaya   told  the  people  of  the  state  to  give  just  one  chance  for  the  Bharatiya  Janata   party  (BJP) to  be  part  in  the  governance  of  the  state,  just   this   one  single  chance  for  five  year  only´. If  the BJP  is  unable  to  rule  and  fulfil  its promises “Kick Us Out". The National Democratic Alliance at the Centre had always  remembered  Meghalaya and  given  due  attention to its  needs.  However, the State Government has failed to respond and co-operate.The Meghalaya Government is unaccountable, no revenue of financial statistics as if it is not unanswerable to the financial aids of the Central Government is the pertinent question.
